Philadelphus lewisii/ Wild Mock Orange
Philadelphus lewisii/ Wild Mock Orange
Philadelphius lewisii is a fountain shaped, loosely branched deciduous shrub. Expect it to flower for several weeks in late spring to early summer, and at the height of flowering, the shrub is covered in a mass of blossoms which are exquisitely fragrant reminding one of orange blossoms with a touch of pineapple.
Maintenance is generally low. Blooms on previous year's wood, so prune immediately after flowering.
Incorporate Mock Orange into shrub borders, foundation plantings, informal flowering hedges.
Mock orange is the only native plant species in British Columbia that belongs to the horticulturally valuable Hydrangea family.
